The transition from Pre-School into reception class is a big part of a child’s life and at Pool Pre-School we aim to make it a happy and exciting time for your child(ren). We work very hard to support all our children in developing the life-long skills and attitudes needed to fulfil their potential.
To help with the transition of the children in our care into Reception Class we have the following practices and procedures in place:
- Talking to the children about transitions.
- Have books available about moving up to school.
- We set up a role play area using the uniform which your child will wear at their receiving school.
- We fill in a transition record which is given to reception teacher (also copy to parents)
- Ask parents to fill in information about their child as part of the transition record
- ‘Moving Up’ Day where children spend time in their reception class
- We liaise closely with the reception teachers from the local family of school.
How can I help my child get ready?
Your child will have lots of new activities and routines to get used to when they start school. There are some things they’ll need to do more independently than they might have before. A child’s relationship with their parents is the most important factor in their
development, and there’s a lot you can do at home.
The following guidance Starting-Reception can be used as a tool for parents to support their children at home and ensure “School Readiness”
